The Ottawa Senators finished dead last in the league during their inaugural season. Hoping to change that, they drafted the highly rated player who every team wanted. There were close to a half dozen trade offers with most of them being serious ones. Rumours even escalated to where players like Peter Forsberg and Owen Nolan (in his prime) were involved, while others were willing to give two draft picks. Ottawa rejected anything that come their way.

He was supposed to be so good that no one would remember anyone drafted after him. Fool’s gold at its finest.

Daigle never ever lived up to his potential though he did have two 50 point seasons in his five years in the Canadian capital. His last day in the NHL was March 6 th, 2006, 13 years after being drafted. Daigle, like many others who have failed in North America, is currently playing somewhere in Europe for some second hand team.

He was supposed to perform in the same category as Gordie Howe and the futuristic Wayne Gretzky. The Stars gave him five seasons with his best performance being only 44 points which is not even close to his expectations.

The New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques, Boston Bruins and San Jose all gave Lawton a chance that all failed. Scoring 266 points in 483 NHL games is not all that bad for an average Joe but very bad for a 1st overall pick.

His style did change when he entered NHL arenas. He looked scared to go in the corners and intimidated to play the sport the way he grew up.

The key reason that he is the biggest draft day bust is simple; the 1983 class was exceptional and he was not.

While Rose will take time to develop, Chicago will likely return to the playoffs this season if Rose is as good as advertised. Meanwhile, the Cavs added Milwaukee point guard Mo Williams and the Pistons have retained the same core that has gotten them to at least the Eastern conference finals for six straight years. Detroit will face an increasing challenge from Cleveland this year and could be in danger of falling to second place in the Central. Even Indiana may contend again for a playoff spot in the East if Danny Granger can continue to grow and make the leap into stardom. The Bucks brought in Nets forward Richard Jefferson to team up with Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut, but then inexplicably traded Mo Williams to the Cavs for pennies on the dollar.

The Magic should glide to another division title unless Washington can get Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison back healthy in time to make a push for Southeastern title. While Miami will be better with the additions of Shawn Marion and Michael Beasley and the return of a healthy Dwyane Wade, they are young and inexperienced and lack a capable big man. Charlotte should also be improved with Larry Brown at the helm, but he must prove he still has his coaching mojo after his debacle with the Knicks a few years ago. Even with talents such as Joe Johnson, Al Horford and Josh Smith, the Hawks are still – well, the Hawks. Time will tell if their 7 game series against Boston was a fluke or an indication that Atlanta is actually ready to compete.

Larry Brown has always had the reputation for being tough on his point guards, and it is not a good sign for Felton that the Bobcats picked D.J. Augustin in the first round of the draft. Brown abhors shoot first point guards, and although Felton cannot exactly be classified as such, expect Brown to have him on a short leash.

The Frigid Northwest

The weakest division in the Western conference features a group of rebuilding teams. Minnesota and Oklahoma City have almost no chance at reaching the playoffs in the stacked West. In fact, the Flint Tropics have about as good a shot at making the NBA playoffs than Oklahoma City. Denver basically indicated that they valued trimming payroll over competing for the playoffs when they dealt Marcus Camby to the Clippers for nothing. Portland has a nice young nucleus of Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Brandon Roy and may contend for the playoffs this year if Oden can successfully return from microfracture surgery on his knee and avoid any other serious injuries. However, the Blazers probably aren’t quite ready yet to challenge Utah for the division crown unless Oden can play at an all star level in his first season as a pro. The Jazz should be competitive once again but still lack a defensive presence in the paint that can slow down top big men in the West such as Tim Duncan, Amare Stoudemire, or Yao Ming.

Then they let hall of famer Elgin Baylor go and claimed he resigned, but it has since been reported that he was forced out in a power struggle with head coach Mike Dunleavy. The Lakers are again the cream of the crop and are the favorites to represent the West in the Finals again. Phoenix, while still dangerous, appears to be on the down slope as Shaq is aging and growing less effective and more injury prone. It’s also unclear how much longer Steve Nash will be able to keep up his stellar play. The Suns could really use a player like Shawn Marion. He seems like he would fit in well with that team… The Warriors will likely take a step backwards this season after losing Davis, who fit perfectly in Don Nelson’s run ‘n gun offense. The Kings really aren’t worth mentioning.

Dice Sports Games That Are Fun: The Pro Basketball Dice Game

 This an introduction into a world of incredibly fun sports games played with dice. In this lesson you are going to learn the Pro Basketball dice game. Before you begin you will need eight dice, notebook paper and a pen or pencil to play Pro dice basketball.

In all of our dice games you have to make a box score sheet that had two boxes split in half. These two halves represented the home team and the visitors. The visitors always rolls first in dice pro basketball.

In the pro basketball version of dice basketball there are actually four quarters per team. Equally, in the pro basketball game, the visiting team always goes first in all four quarters.

Scoring is pretty simple. Each team gets to start their first quarter by rolling all of the eight dice once. Once rolled, count up the total of the top six dice results; which would represent how many points were scored in the quarter. As an example let us assume that the visiting team rolled the following dice totals; 4, 3, 1, 6, 5, 6, 1, 2. In all, these total 28 points.

The player would then remove the two lower dice results (the two 1′s) which would leave the player with 26 points. At most, six dice would total a maximum 36 points in a quarter; which is a much better total than the normal quarter; in terms of pro basketball. However, one would have to roll six dice that all hit sixes in order to get to 36 points in a quarter.

Now the home team gets to strike back. Their dice totals result with; 2, 3, 3, 4, 1, 6, 4, 5. This equals a total of 28 points. Now the home team removes the 1 and 2 which gives them a new total of 25 points. Thus the first quarter of the basketball game ends with the home team losing by a score of 26 to 25.

The Visitor’s team always go first in each quarter. So let us say that in the second quarter the visitors roll the following; 5, 6, 5, 3, 3, 5, 6, 1. That is a total of 34. The visitor subtracts the 1 and 3 which results in a second quarter total of 30. The visitor adds the previous 26 to the 30 and is sitting pretty with 56 first half points.

The Home team responds with a roll of 2, 6, 4, 5, 6, 5, 5, 1, for a total of 34 points. Then they subtract the 1 and 2 which leaves them with a dice total of 31 points!
